From Me to We: Autobiographical Playwriting

Facilitator: Psalmayene24

In this workshop participants will be introduced to methods of creating theater using stories and experiences from their personal lives. Through monologues, movement, and poetry, this workshop will help writers and performers of all levels mine the rich resources of their individual histories in a creative and supportive communal environment. Anyone who has a strong desire to share their unique autobiographical stories with others is welcome. Psalmayene24 is a Season 2025 Social Impact Local Theatre Resident artist.

December 10th 1–3 p.m.

Playwriting Workshop

Facilitator: Dani Stoller

Some of the most notable artists in history are known for breaking the rules and going against convention. However, in order for one to break the rules, one must first understand what those rules are. Playwriting for Rule Breakers is a masterclass focused on writing for the stage, where participants will explore the prime components of playwriting, such as character, dialogue, and various dramatic structures. By examining the works of classical and contemporary playwrights from Sophocles to Clare Barron to Brandon Jacobs Jenkins to Suzan-Lori Parks, this masterclass will help playwrights understand how to analyze the works of others, write pieces that are structurally and dramaturgically sound, and develop their own, unique voice. Each participant will also receive their own Playwriting for Rule Breakers workbook, allowing them to continue their writing journey even after the masterclass has ended. Stoller is a Season 2025 Social Impact Local Theatre Resident artist.

December 11th 12–2 p.m.

Choreography for Creative Text

Facilitator: Jocelyn Cox

Choreography for Creative Text is an exploration of the relationship(s) between movements and words. This workshop will explore dance’s ability to enrich text; analyzing tone and rhetoric alongside movement factors like weight, time, space, and flow. Although a dance background is not required, participants are encouraged to have an interest in movement, text, creation, and body awareness. Unrestrictive clothing and bare feet (socks OK) are encouraged. Participants can also wear jazz shoes or ballet slippers.

December 12th 12–2 p.m.
