Program Notes
Igor Stravinsky’s (1882-1971) "Dumbarton Oaks" Concerto, inspired by Bach's Brandenburg Concertos, is a hallmark of neo-classicism, blending rhythmic vitality with clear counterpoint. Commissioned for the Dumbarton Oaks estate and premiered in 1938, it features a lively first movement, a serene second, and an energetic finale. This concerto stands out for its inventive textures and harmonic ingenuity, solidifying its place in the 20th-century chamber orchestra repertoire.
Claudia Montero (1962-2021), an Argentine composer, has enchanted the world with her compositions that beautifully meld classical traditions with the rich tapestry of Latin American music. Her Violin Concerto,
a masterpiece that has garnered international acclaim and a prestigious Latin Grammy Award, stands as a testament to her innovative spirit and exceptional
talent.
Juan Camilo Arboleda (b. 1985) is a Grammy-nominated composer/arranger/orchestrator. He got his music degree with a masters in musical composition from the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in 2009. Since then he has worked on feature films, video games, and TV. He has also worked with top artists making arrangements for live concerts and CD releases.
Franz Peter Schubert’s (1797–1828) Symphony No. 5 in
B-flat Major reflects his admiration for Mozart and Haydn, showcasing classical grace alongside emotional
depth. Composed at just 19, it features light
orchestration and melodic ingenuity, from the lively Allegro to the serene Andante, and the playful finale. This work demonstrates Schubert’s early command of form and melody, making it a cherished piece in the classical repertoire.
