A Note from the Ambassador of Brazil to Washington
"I commend the artistry and talent of the Child Citizen Orchestra, a Brazilian social project that creates opportunities for children through musical education. It is a pleasure to bring their rhythms and sounds to the Kennedy Center on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of Brazil-US relations.”
Maria Luiza Ribeiro Viotti
Ambassador of Brazil to Washington
Program Notes
Orquestra Criança Cidadã (Child Citizen Orchestra Quintet) is a Brazilian social project that has been changing the lives of hundreds of children and teenagers through musical education. In 2015, the project joined the UNESCO Associated Schools Network (ASPnet), a global initiative of more than 12,000 schools in 182 countries with a common goal of forging a culture of peace around the world. The Child Citizen Orchestra Quintet was the first music school in Latin America to receive UNESCO’s ASPnet international certification. In 2023, in association with the Italian Cavalsassi Foundation, the Orchestra performed the Concerts for Peace in the Vatican.
