Mumu Fresh's #LifeIn5

Grammy-nominated Afro-Indigenous singer, emcee, songwriter, activist and acclaimed hip hop artist Maimouna Youssef aka Mumu Fresh joins #KenCenHipHop to present her #LifeIn5. The DMV shero who’s been called a “quadruple threat” by The Roots’ Black Thought and “groundbreaking” by Oscar-winning artist, Common has been performing since she was able to walk with a discography spanning back as far as 2006 and collaborations with music giants such as The Roots, Dead Prez, DJ Dummy, DJ Jazzy Jeff and Oddisee in addition to performances alongside Erykah Badu, Dave Chappelle, Sting, Ms. Lauryn Hill, Ed Sheeran, Aloe Blacc, Nas, Rapsody, Bruno Mars, and many others. Maimouna has received international acclaim for featured performances on NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert Series and has captivated audiences at world-famous venues around the globe such as Lincoln Center, Harlem Stage, NYC Summer Stage, Carnegie Hall, èßäAVand Montreux Jazz Festival (Switzerland). Behind the scenes, Youssef serves as a Musical Ambassador for The United States as well as a Governor for the DC chapter of the Recording Academy’s Grammy Board and mentor for several Grammy U affiliated young aspiring artists. She has partnered with AFROPUNK x Netflix, was the voice behind the ACLU Systematic Equality campaign, and was asked to lend her soulful voice to the ESPYs tribute to Black Lives. In 2020, she founded an online music education platform called “Muniversity Studies” to teach aspiring artists everything they need to know to succeed independently with purpose.

#LifeIn5 is a #KenCenHipHop digital storytelling initiative providing artists with an opportunity to share the top five hip hop songs that tell their story.
