"Art of War" is a powerful new symphony that explores the drama of human conflict from the perspectives of soldiers, weaponry, and human loss.
Animating a three-movement symphonic structure are original field recordings of weapons tests; elements of American and Iraqi folk music; and the printing presses of the US Treasury.
This new work by Kennedy Center Composer-in-Residence Mason Bates was performed by the National Symphony Orchestra and conducted by NSO Music Director Gianandrea Noseda. It premiered December, 2018, in the Kennedy Center's Concert Hall.
