Tour History
The NSO has been touring across the United States since 1940. Touring was important during the era of founding Music Director Hans Kindler. The orchestra toured frequently and performed at Carnegie Hall for the first time on February 2, 1941.
The orchestra’s first international tour was in 1959 to South America with then Music Director Howard Mitchell. This tour took the NSO on the road for twelve weeks, giving sixty-eight concerts in nineteen countries. With Mitchell still at the podium, the orchestra embarked on its first European tour in 1967, with concerts in Germany, Austria, England, and Spain.
