Carlos Simon: Wake Up! Concerto for Orchestra** (NSO CO-COMMISSION)
Ludwig van Beethoven: Piano Concerto No. 4
Dmitri Shostakovich: Symphony No. 5

Following his concerts last season, The Washington Classical Review reported that an “aura of classical music celebrity hung about the Kennedy Center Concert Hall… when a capacity crowd turned out to hear the return of Seong-Jin Cho.”

Now, he reunites with Gianandrea Noseda for a performance of Beethoven’s moving and personal Piano Concerto No. 4. The program also includes an NSO co-commission by Kennedy Center Composer-in-Residence Carlos Simon and Shostakovich’s epic Symphony No. 5, a drama of triumph over adversity shaped by the composer’s own life under a totalitarian regime.

Musical Roots

Celebrating Noseda’s 60th Birthday

Gianandrea Noseda has built a strong community of musicians who share his passion, creativity, and musical innovation. This season, he invites NSO audiences to join this elite circle with programs featuring some of his closest friends and collaborators.

My life has been dedicated to music, and without the incredible artists by whom I am surrounded—from the NSO to my many friends and colleagues—I would not be here today.

“As I celebrate my 60th birthday throughout the season, I’m grateful to be surrounded by close friends like Gil Shaham, Seong-Jin Cho, Hilary Hahn, and Fazil Say. I can’t wait for you to experience the celebration, these remarkable artists, and the unbreakable bond we’ve created through music.”
—Gianandrea Noseda
