Aysha Upchurch

Aysha Upchurch (Founder and Artistic Director) is a Washington, DC based dancer, choreographer, and instructor. Upchurch has served on the faculty at Joy of Motion Dance Center, CityDance ensemble, and Dance Place. Her talents as a teacher and choreographer have been sought out by dance companies and institutions spanning genres including hip hop, West African, modern, and tap dance. She has set works at Georgetown University Dance Company, CityDance ensemble, DCypher Dance Company, and Texas Women’s University dance program. Her choreography has been seen at the Kennedy Center, Dance Place, the Carter Barron Amphitheatre, DARS Constitution Hall, Atlas performing Arts Center, and the Verizon Center. She has taught and performed throughout the country in Philadelphia, New York, Texas, Florida, and North Dakota, as well as internationally in the Caribbean, Central America, and Eastern Europe. In 2008 and 2009, Aysha was selected to be a U.S. State Department Cultural Envoy in Dance in Honduras and Bolivia, performing and conducting hip hop and West African dance and self-este workshops with at-risk youth. A native of St. Louis, Missouri, Aysha earned a B.A. in International Studies and an M.A. in International Peace and Conflict Resolution from American University. Whether as a teacher, dancer, or director, Aysha seeks to share and infect others with her love for dance and inspire th to be an agent for positive change in this world.
