Jonathan Philbert is from New York City and attended LaGuardia High School for Dance. While dancing there, he attended the Jaqueline Kennedy Onassis School of American Ballet Theatre and studied there for four years. Upon graduation, he got a contract for the Joffrey Ballet in Chicago for their second company. While there, he got to work with both the studio company and the main company in various works like The Nutcracker and Romeo and Juliet. After his two years with Joffrey Ballet, he got a main company contract with Atlanta Ballet. During his four years at Atlanta Ballet, he got to perform numerous works from various choreographers such as Yuri Possokhov, Juliano Nunes, and Jiri Kylian, among others. After four years, he started a freelance year to develop and try different genres or dance. He is now with New Jersey Ballet and has danced various works from the repertoire.
