Tongyao Li is a Chinese pianist who is joining the Cafritz Young Artists of Washington National Opera for the 2024–2025 season. She currently serves as music director and pianist for all education performances, as well as music staff and pianist for Pensacola Opera’s 2023-24 season.  This season, she can be seen as assistant conductor in Macbeth. She was selected to participate in Renée Fleming’s SongStudio at Carnegie Hall in 2022 and joined the 2023 Songfest Program and Opera Coaching Fellowship at the Aspen Music Festival and School in both 2022 and 2023. This summer, she will be the opera pianist for the Manetti Shrem Opera Program at the Napa Valley Music Festival. Li has performed throughout China and US, including Carnegie Hall, Harris Hall, Wheeler Opera House, Shanghai Symphony Orchestra Music Hall, and Shanghai Concert Hall. She was a vocal coach while studying at the Manhattan School of Music and Michigan State University.  In addition, Li has worked with some of today’s finest artists like Andy Einhorn, Francesca Zambello, Hartmut Höll, Renée Fleming, Roger Vignoles, Myra Huang.
