Through immersive technologies, our collaborative of artists and computer scientists amplifies the power of art to create social change. Our current project, Waving: from Space to Ocean, grapples with climate injustice by drawing the public into an interactive artwork inspired by the hyperspectral imaging of the NASA PACE (Plankton, Aerosol, Cloud, ocean Ecosystem) satellite mission. The work is an ongoing collaboration between NASA, the University of Maryland Immersive Media Design program, and the xREZ Art + Science Lab at University of North Texas. xRez embodies the unique creative forces found at the intersection of the arts, sciences, and humanities to open new portals of imagination, new ways of knowing ourselves and our world, and to foster communication across cultures. Collectively, Immersive Media Design strives to further our vision of an academic community in which science and technology are resolutely joined with the creative and performing arts.
