Sara Han Assistant Principal
Sara Han is the Assistant Principal and E-flat Clarinetist of the Washington National Opera/Kennedy Center Opera House Orchestra. A native of Seoul, South Korea, she is an active performer on stages around the world. Sara has performed with The Florida Orchestra, the Houston Ballet Orchestra, Symphony in C, and has served as acting principal clarinetist of the Opera Philadelphia Orchestra. She completed her Master’s Degree at Rice University's Shepherd School of Music in Houston, TX, where she was also named a DaCamera Young Artist. Prior to her time at Rice, she completed her undergraduate studies at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, PA. In the summer of 2019, Sara attended the Music Academy of the West, where she was named the winner of the Keston MAX Audition. She also participated in the New York String Orchestra Seminar, the Aspen Music Festival and School, and the National Youth Orchestra of the USA. Sara was a winner of the 2018 Yamaha Young Performing Artists Competition, has been featured on the NPR radio show From the Top, and has appeared as a soloist with the Interlochen Academy Orchestra and Seoul Romance Orchestra. She is thankful for the guidance of Richie Hawley, Anthony McGill, and Emil Khudyev.
