Arturo Garcia
Here Now is a new work that investigates the complexities of habits, good and bad, that define the patterns we set in our lives and limit our results. The work presents variations on this theme, illustrating how changes in our actions cause unique effects. Through sounds and visuals, Arturo Garcia's Arlington based dance company, Danzante, explores the otional connections we have to our habits, the impact our habits have on our relationships, and reflects upon the otions that influence our habits. Arturo Garcia, a native of Monterrey, Mexico and founder of Company Danzante, has been a dancer and choreographer of contemporary dance for 15 years. He studied on scholarship at the Central School of Ballet in London and has participated in tours to the United States, England, France, Italy, Venezuela, Egypt, Ireland, and Israel. As a member of the company Tania Perez-Salas Compania de Danza for six years, Arturo performed in festivals such as Fall for Dance at City Center in New York, Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival, the Galway Arts Festival in Ireland, Oriente Occidente festival in Italy, and the Biennale of Art in France. The Mexican National Foundation for the Arts has supported Arturo's career through annual grants for his work as a contemporary dance interpreter. In 2009, Arturo founded The Danzanorte-Danzante Collective, a contemporary dance project that collaborates with independent artists in Mexico and the United States. In 2010, Arturo received a commission grant to create a new work for Piel Morena contemporary Dance Company based in Chicago, which premiered in the fall of 2011. Since 2010, Arturo has resided in Northern Virginia, working as a local performer, choreographer, and dance teacher.
