Amy Claussen

Amy Claussen (she/her) is a playwright based in the DC area. As an artist with a mental and chronic illness, she is on a journey to create more inclusive stories in accessible formats. Her plays have been produced and workshopped at Hangar Theatre, Profile Theatre, The Kennedy Center, The Pitch @ Merry-Go-Round Playhouse, Penguin Rep, New York Fringe Festival, and more. As a director, she is the recipient of a Drama League Fellowship and has worked at Berkeley Rep's Ground Floor with Lauren Gunderson and Hangar Theatre with Alice Austen, among others. Amy has a BFA in theatre directing from Carnegie Mellon. When she's not writing plays, she co-produces Open Circle Theatre’s Hive, a collective for artists with disabilities. She also leads UX content design at The Washington Post, creating digital experiences that are useful, easy-to-understand, and accessible.
