Daniel Burkholder

Under the direction of Daniel Burkholder, The PlayGround focuses on developing unique methods for creating and performing movement-based improvisational work. This exploration delves into how work is structured, what is meaning and authenticity, and the relationships among all the participants (dancers, musicians, technicians and audience). By combining some of the best improvisational dancers and musicians in the DC area, The PlayGround has established itself as an innovative voice in the dance community. Daniel Burkholder is the Director of The PlayGround and co-director of Improv Arts, inc. His work has been presented at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Dance Place, The Clarice Smith Center for the Performing Arts, The H Street Playhouse, The Warehouse Theater and throughout the Mid-Atlantic region. He has been commissioned to create work by The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, CrossCurrents Dance Company, Dance Place and the Choreographers’ Collaboration Project. Daniel holds degrees from Sarah Lawrence College, American University, Moving On Center/School for Participatory Arts and is a Guild Certified Feldenkrais Practioner.
